PMS syndrome
PMS症候群のこのようなご症状でお困りですか?
I suffer from severe menstrual cramps that interfere with my daily life.
During menstruation, I experience symptoms such as emotional instability, irritability, and difficulty concentrating.
I suffer from severe lower back pain and headaches before and during my period, and I can't live without painkillers.
I have swollen and tired legs.
他人より生理前・生理中の症状がきつい。
I want to be able to spend my time comfortably without worrying about premenstrual symptoms.
The current situation is that the exact cause of PMS/PMDD is unknown.
PMS (premenstrual syndrome) involves both mental and physical symptoms, including various symptoms such as drowsiness, increased appetite, and breast tenderness.
PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) refers to a type of PMS where mental symptoms (i.e., irritability, anxiety, and depression) are particularly pronounced.
Despite these symptoms contributing to a decline in quality of life (QOL) and performance, the exact cause of PMS/PMDD remains unclear. Furthermore, despite the presence of obvious discomfort, modern medical tests often reveal no abnormalities. (Theories include hormonal imbalances, autonomic nervous system dysfunction, adrenal insufficiency, serotonin secretion disorders, vitamin D6 deficiency, and allergies.)
Furthermore, many women mistakenly believe that these symptoms are normal and push themselves too hard during or around their menstrual cycle.
Characteristics of treatment for PMS syndrome at Karada Kenkyujo Acupuncture and Osteopathic Clinic
Although the cause of PMS and PMDD is unknown, acupuncture has been shown to be an effective symptomatic treatment.
At our clinic, we use trigger point therapy to stimulate the abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis, iliopsoas, etc.) to reduce edema and improve blood circulation around the pelvic organs.
Furthermore, we utilize acupoints (such as Zusanli, Sanyinjiao, Zhongji, Ciliao, and Neiguan) that have evidence of being effective for PMS and PMDD from a traditional East Asian medicine perspective, and perform holistic adjustments based on musculoskeletal and trigger point therapy to promote symptom relief.
Even if you're unsure whether your symptoms are PMS or PMDD, please feel free to contact us for advice.
